“Art exhibitions such as Archibald Prize or the Portia Geach Prize are always popular with artlovers. But imagine seeing work by artists who have won these prestigious prizes over the years in just one exhibition. The inaugural exhibition from Portrait Artists Australia (PAA) is precisely that – works by more than 40 Australian artists, many of whom are past winners of some of this country’s most prestigious art prizes. PAA is a newly-formed non profit national arts organisation which was launched in October last year. Dedicated to promoting artists and celebrating portraiture in Australia, the I organisation boasts more than 100 members including winners of both the Archibald and Portia Geach Prizes. Winners of other well-known awards, such as the Doug Moran Portrait Prize, are also included. This inaugural exhibition, which spans all three levels of the ArtHouse Hotel, features the work of 40 of the organisation’s members including Paul Newton, Jiawei Shen and Jan Williamson. The exhibition also features portraits of many well-known Australians including Tara Moss, H.G. Nelson, Kostya Tszyu and Christine Anu. Paul Delprat, a patron of PAA and the principal of the Julian Ashton Art School, will launch the exhibition tonight. The Portrait Artists Australia exhibition is on at the ArtHouse Hotel, 275 Pitt St Sydney, from tomorrow until February 22. Admission is free.
