It didn’t take long for medical student turned fashion designer turned full-time artist Nafisa Naomi to decide she wanted to do a portrait of ABC personaliry Adam Spencer. “I first met him at Tara Moss’s book launch where my portrait of Tara was on display,” the Sydney-based painter said. “Adam came up and congratulated me on my work and I said, `Id love to paint your face’, because he has a very interesting head. A lot of people know him as a mathematician, others as a comedian and DJ – in this painting I wanted to capture all those sides. Adam was a wonderful subject because he didn’t give a stuff, basically! He didn’t really mind how I chose to portray him, although I showed him the painting and he loved it” The portraits of Spencer, Moss and others will be among about 30 works that will feature in Naomi’s first major solo exhibition, A Lingering doubt, open to the public from Tuesday at hot Sydney venue the ArtHouse Hotel.
